• ABOUT ME

My name is Hoiking Fung. I have been practicing as a Counsellor since 2019, supporting individuals and couples. I studied Existential Integrative Psychotherapy at The Living Institute.

I came to this work through my own healing journey. Never in the previous versions of myself, did I ever think of counselling as a path. My life focus was on the arts, as I studied drawing and painting in my childhood, adolescence and my early 20's. In my mid to late 20's I was not feeling much meaning in my life trajectory at the time. I would research different spiritual paths, attend different gatherings. Still, my thirst for deeper answers about existence was not found in these groups.

In my early 30's I went into counselling to better understand my own life circumstances and past traumas as it was affecting my life at the moment. Begining this work had significantly changed my lifes path. In these sessions I was able to reconnect and heal parts of myself that felt so distant. It helped me reconnect with a sense of purpose in life. Also in the process, began my obsession with psychology. I was reading through books on the human psyche at a rapid pace. My counsellor at the time suggested that I go into training and the study of psychology.

Part of my work is to help clients discover their inner strengths. A popular and well known image in Western mythology and culture is that of a dragon in a cave protecting a pile of gold. Carl Jung would say that all images can be interpreted as metaphors of oneself. The cave being an unconscious aspect or hidden place within. The dragon possibly the part of us that is protective, and the gold being a lost part of ourselves that was hidden due to adapting to overwhelming circumstances and experiences. When we reconcile with our defenses we can begin to reveal parts of ourselves that we were disconnected from, sometimes even lost gifts. My role is to walk alongside you.

"Keep walking, though there’s no place to get to.

Don’t try to see through the distances.

That’s not for human beings.

Move within, but don’t move the way fear makes you move.

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.

Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading.

Take down a musical instrument.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.

There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground."
